DUSHANBE, October 9, Asia-Plus – Tajik central electoral commission has refused registration of Mirhusein Narziyev, the leader of the unregistered wing of the Socialist Party (SPT) as candidate for running in the upcoming presidential election.

Muhibullo Dodojonov, a spokesman for the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda (CCER), said that the CCER today made a decision to refuse registration of Mirhusein Narziyev as candidate for president because the Ministry of Justice has recognized Abduhalim Ghafforov as the party chairman.

“As far as the candidacy of Abduhalim Ghafforov is concerned, his supporters have collected enough signatures to register him as candidate and decision on registration of him as candidate for president will be made at the next meeting of the commission set for October 11,” the CCER spokesman said.

“The same day, we will also consider documents of the candidate for president from the Agrarian Party (APT),” Dodojonov said.

On the situation with the candidate from the Democratic Party (DPT), Dodojonov said that because of a split within the party a process of collection of signatures have been delayed and they have failed to collect enough signature in good time.  According to him, a final decision on the DPT candidate for president will also be made on October 11.
