DUSHANBE, October 26, Asia-Plus — The country’s antimonopoly commission will continue to regulate the airfares determined by the national air carrier, the antimonopoly agency head Rahmonali Amirov announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on October 25.
According to him, the country’s air carrier TajikAir has raised individual air fares by 34.4 percent since September.
”If the Tajik national airline raises passenger fares on the routes from Russia to Dushanbe during the season when Tajik labor migrants return home, we will overrule them,” said Amirov. “If the air carrier ignores the ruling, we will fine them, as we have before.”
Amirov said that under an agreement between the government and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) the country’s air carrier had been withdrawn from the register of monopolists. ”However, we will regulate passenger fares on domestic routes all the same,” Amirov stressed.
