DUSHANBE, November 8, Asia-Plus — Tajik President Emomali Rahmonov who has won a new seven-year term is receiving congratulations from world leaders, presidential press service reported.  

Presidents of Kazakhstan (President Nursultan Nazarbayev), Armenia (Robert Kocharyan), Iran (Mahmoud Ahmadinejad), Afghanistan (Hamid Karzai), Turkey (Ahmet Necdet Sezer) were among the first to congratulate Rahmonov on his victory.

A source at presidential press service said that Russian President Vladimir Putin had congratulated Emomali Rahmonov by telephone on his “convincing victory.”  Putin rated highly political and socioeconomic stability in Tajikistan.  The two also discussed separate topical issues related to bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and the Russian Federation.  

Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, in a telephone conversation on Tuesday, felicitated Emomali Rahmonov on the latter”s re-election.  He, in particular, expressed hope Tehran-Dushanbe amicable ties will receive a further boost in the near future.  He also hoped the Tajik president”s re-election would boost efforts of Tajik authorities to achieve greater prosperity for Tajikistan, which he describes as a “friend” of Iran.
