DUSHANBE/KHUJAND, November 20, Asia-Plus — Despite bad weather conditions Tajik cotton growers are taking real measures to gather a valuable textile material [cotton].  Recent heavy rainfalls have affected the ongoing cotton harvesting campaign in the republic.  

According to the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), the republic has yielded 438,800 tons of cotton by November 20, which is 80.2 percent of this year’s target determined at 547,000 tons of cotton.

Cotton growers in Khatlon have yielded more than 257,000 tons of cotton to this day, which comprises 78.3 percent of their target, which is 329,000 tons.    

Districts subordinate to the center (RRP) farmers have yielded more than 48,515 tons of cotton by November 20, which is 103.9 percent of their target determined at 46,700 tons of cotton.

The northern province of Sughd has pledged to produce 171,300 tons of cotton this year.  Sughd has gathered 132,791 tons of cotton by November 20, which is 75 percent of the target. 

Asia-Plus’ Mavluda Rafiyeva in Khujand reports that according to the information-analytical department of the Sughd administration, 7,000 students from the Sughd higher educational institutions and vocational-technical schools have been sent to cotton plantations this year.  The source said that students will work in the cotton fields until November 22.
