DUSHANBE, December 7, Asia-Plus – The sixth session of a joint commission EU-Tajikistan was held in Dushanbe on December 6.

According to the European Commission (EC) Dushanbe Office, during the meeting it was noted that the European Union (EU) intends to provide 300 million euros to Central Asia’s states for implementing their national programs.   According to the strategic plan, a part of funds being provided for the next four years will be used for implementing regional projects in the fields of transportation and communications, education, border protection and healthcare, the source said.  However, the major part of these funds will be used for implementing projects in separate countries of the region.

“The aid will be rendered to all countries in the Central Asian region; however, the funds will be provided, mainly, to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan,” the source said, adding that Tajikistan will probably receive some 80 million euros from this amount.  A part of this amount will provided to Tajikistan for implementing its national poverty reduction program.

A December 6 meeting also discussed issues related to economic and investment cooperation between member nations of the European Union and Tajikistan.   According to the source, a trade between Tajikistan and member nations of the European Union has exceeded US$750 million since the beginning of the year.
