KULOB, December 19, Asia-Plus – Masoud Sobirov-run wing of the Democratic Party (DPT) today held a constituent conference in Kulob to elect head and managing board of the DPT organization for the Kulob zone of Khatlon.

Heads of the DPT primary organizations from Farkhor, Vose, Shuroobod and Muminobod districts, as well as the city of Kulob attended the conference.

The conference delegates have unanimously elected Amrokhon Safarov, who heads the DPT organization for the city of Kulob, chairman of the DPT regional organization for the Kulob region of Khatlon.

After the conference, Safarov said in an interview with Asia-Plus that Kulob Democrats are seriously concerned over the party split.  According to him, the conference delegates have stated that it is necessary to convoke an extraordinary congress to resolve this problem.

“They have come out against Jumaboy Niyozov and Rahmatulo Valiyev (activists of the DPT faction led by the imprisoned Mahmadruzi Iskandarov), considering that they are to blame for the party split,” Safarov said.

According to him, all these issues will be discussed at a regional conference of the party that is scheduled to be held in Qurghon Teppa, the capital of Khatlon, within the next few days.
