DUSHANBE, January 15, Asia-Plus — Tajik President Emomali Rahmonov has assured his Kyrgyz counterpart, President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, that Tajik side will investigate into a January 9 incident, when a car of Kyrgyzstan’s Batken governor Sultan Ayzhigitov was stopped at the Tajik border.  

Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev remarked this Friday, January 12, at an event dedicated to “a day of open doors” at the Kyrgyz MFA in Bishkek.  

Information posted on Kyrgyz president’s website says that Bakiyev had a telephone conversation with his Tajik counterpart of on this subject and President Rahmonov promised him that the Tajik side will investigate into the incident.  Besides, Kyrgyz Security Council Secretary Osmonaly Guronov is to go to Tajikistan to meet with his Tajik counterpart on this subject, according to Kyrgyz president’s website.  

The Kyrgyz president pointed to the necessity of resolving issues related to delimitation and demarcation of common border between the two countries in order to avoid such incidents in future.    

Bakiyev also noted that Kyrgyzstan will continue expanding friendly cooperation with China, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
