DUSHANBE, January 16, Asia-Plus — Kyrgyzstan’s Batken governor himself is to blame for a border incident that took place at the border of the Tajik exclave in Kyrgyzstan on January 9, Tajik chief military prosecutor Yusuf Rahmonov told journalists in Dushanbe on January 15.

According to him, Tajik border troops acted within the bounds of law because the governor’s car crossed the Tajik border.

Some Kyrgyz media have reported that Tajik border troops on a routine January 9 patrol stopped a car of the Kyrgyz Batken governor Sultanbay Ayjigitov at the border of the Tajik exclave in Kyrgyzstan when he was going to the Kyrgyz districts hit by a January 8 earthquake.

In the meantime, officials with the Tajik border service refrained from commenting on the incident, saying that they do not have information about this incident.

According to information posted on Kyrgyz president’s website, Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev had a telephone conversation with his Tajik counterpart, President Emomali Rahmonov to discuss the incident.  According to the website, President Rahmonov assured that the Tajik side will probe into the incident.
