China to construct cement plant, brickworks in Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, January 24, Asia-Plus – During President Rahmonov’s visit to China, a project to construct a new cement plant in Tajikistan has been submitted for consideration to the Chinese side, Mahmadjon Okhunov, head of the industry and building materials department of the Ministry of Energy and Industry (MoEI), said in an interview with Asia-Plus.  

According to him, the plan will be constructed in the Danghara district of Khatlon and its rated capacity will be 1 million tons of cement per year.  “The estimated budget for the construction of this plant is $180 million,” Okhunov said.

He added that three other investment projects had also been submitted for consideration to Chinese businessmen in Beijing. 

One of these projects is aimed at the construction of a cement plant in the Spitamen district of Sughd.  Under the second project, Tajikistan is supposed to construct the glass foundry in southern Tajikistan and the third project is aimed at the construction brickworks in Hissor.  

Okhunov noted that the Chinese side had been interested in only two projects – construction of the cement plant in Danghara and brickworks in Hissor. 

According to Okhunov, China plans to construct the cement plant in Danghara in three years.
