DUSHANBE, January 24, Asia-Plus – Iranian Education Minister Mahmoud Farshidi arrived in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on January 23 for an official four-day visit.

Farshidi, who is heading a cultural and educational delegation, was welcomed at Dushanbe airport by Tajik Education Minister Abdujabbor Rahmonov.  

His visit, taking place at the official invitation of Abdujabbor Rahmonov, is aimed at exploring avenues for expansion of Iran”s scientific and educational cooperation with Central Asian countries, Tajikistan in particular.

The first round of talks between Abdujabbor Rahmonov and his Iranian counterpart was held at Tajik Education Ministry Tuesday evening.  In this round of talks, The Tajik and Iranian ministers of education on underlined the need to develop mutual cultural relations.  The two sides expressed their readiness to bolster mutual cultural and educational ties.

Abdujabbor Rahmonov expressed pleasure with his Iranian counterpart”s visit to Tajikistan, saying that expansion of bilateral ties, implementation of reached agreements as well as presentation of new documents on cultural and educational relations between the two countries, which enjoy common culture and language, will be discussed in the negotiations.

For his part, Mahmoud Farshidi said that Iran is keen on expanding ties with Tajikistan, and hoped the latest agreements, reached during the Tajik minister”s recent visit to Isfahan would be implemented.

The sides are to ink a memorandum of understanding on promoting educational and scientific cooperation between Tehran and Dushanbe.

During his stay in Tajikistan, Farshidi and his accompanying delegation will meet with Tajik President Emomali Rahmonov and deputy prime minister.

Expansion of scientific and cultural relations, exploring grounds for promotion of Persian language in Tajikistan, and establishment of an Iranian educational complex are among the goals of the visit of the Iranian delegation to Tajikistan.

On January 25, the Tajik and Iranian ministers will give a news conference in Dushanbe.
