DUSHANBE/KHOROG, February 8, Asia-Plus — A government working group led by Deputy Prime Minister Asadullo Ghulomov yesterday visited Gorno Badakhshan to closely monitor the situation on the Pamir-1 hydropower plant that was affected by flooding last Monday.

On February 6, a group of rescuers from Dushanbe joined the GBAO emergency services to remove the flooding effects.

Asia-Plus’ Shonavruz Afzalshoyev in Gorno Badakhshan said that while Pamir-1 station currently remains closed, electrical power is supplied to Khorog from Khorog-1 power plant, which has capacity of 9 MW on restricted basis.  I WW of electricity generated by the Khorog-1 station is used for removing effects of the accident on the Pamir-1 power plant and 8 MW are used to provide with electricity residents and enterprises in Khorog.

At present residents of Khorog have electricity four hours per day – 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the evening, while Shugnan, Rushan, Roshtqala and Ishkashim districts do not receive electricity supplies at all.

Electricity rationing led to reduction in production of bread in Khorog.  Schools in Khorog heated on the basis of electricity have been closed for two weeks.

The government and PamirEnergy specialists are conducting a full investigation to determine causes and make recommendations on the rehabilitation of the facility.
