DUSHANBE, February 8, Asia-Plus – A roundtable meeting formally titled “Heating Efficiency in Public Buildings” was held in Dushanbe on February 8.

The meeting staged by Dushanbe NGO For Earth brought together representatives local NGOs, international organizations active in Tajikistan as well as NGOs from Central Asia’s states dealing with ecological and energy saving issues.

The meeting considered issues related to improving heating and energy efficiency in public buildings, including educational and social facilities.

Timur Idrisov, the head of the Dushanbe NGO For Earth said that the main objective of the meeting was to attract attention of donors and international organizations supporting construction and repairing of educational and social facilities to significance of heating efficiency and energy saving aspects.

“At present practically no attention is paid to issues of heating and energy efficiency in buildings in Tajikistan,” Idrisov said, noting that his NGO reported at the meeting on work carried out in this field.

As an example of heating efficiency Idrisov termed a project for heating efficiency in the building of school # 15 in the village of Payshanbe in the Varzob district.  Under the project, single window frames have been replaced with the folding frames, wooden floors have been laid, the ceiling has been heated, etc.  A total project cost was $4,500.

According to Idrisov, the project allowed reducing use of firewood and coal and improving conditions for studying.

Idrisov added that representative from Ukraine’s NGO Eco Club Andrey Martynyuk will conduct a seminar on heating efficiency issues at schools ## 55 and 74 in Dushanbe tomorrow.
