DUSHANBE, February 13, Asia-Plus – Issues related to passenger transport services and state of roads were discussed at a February 12 meeting of the Dushanbe mayor’s office presided over by Mayor Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev.  

Shavkat Saidov, a spokesman for the Dushanbe mayor, said that Ubaidulloyev had charged chairmen of the city’s districts to provide the targeted use of funds allocated for repairing roads in Dushanbe.  A commission of the Dushanbe legislature  (Majlis) is to inspect the results of this work within the next two weeks, according to the spokesman.  

Ubaidulloyev also charged chairmen of the districts and heads of relevant municipal services to provide adequate maintenance of bus stations and electric light of streets as well as proper work of the public transport in the city.   

During the meeting it was noted that 50 new Russian type buses LiAZ will appear in the streets of Dushanbe in the coming days to improve passenger transport services.  “Another 50 buses are expected to be brought from Russia in the near future,” the spokesman said.  

Besides, the Dushanbe finance and construction departments are to find 5 million somonis to repair 223 elevators in the residential buildings.  

At the end of last week, the Dushanbe signed a resolution obligating the municipal services to begin preparations for celebrations to mark the 10th anniversary of the General Peace Agreement.  By this resolution Ubaidulloyev also confirmed a membership of the Dushanbe Public Council for 2007.  

The mayor also signed resolutions on conducting contest for improvement of the aesthetic appearance of the capital city from February 10 to August 31 this year as well as on days of visiting theatres.  Under the resolution on days of visiting theatres, the Dushanbe theatres will be open for schoolchildren the last Saturday of month.  This resolution was passed for the purpose of implementation of the national concept of fostering the rising generation, according to the spokesman.  The Dushanbe finance department is to allocate 28,000 somonis this year to organize schoolchildren’s visits to theatres.
