DUSHANBE, April 3, Asia-Plus — Closed joint-stock company (CJSC) Zarubezhneftegaz (overseas oil-and-gas explorations), affiliated with Russia’s state controlled gas company Gazprom, has launched geological surveys at the Sargazon gas filed, located in the Danghara district of Khatlon, some 150 kilometers from Dushanbe, according to the Ministry of Energy and Industries (MoEI).

The source at a MoEI noted that work on exploring oil and gas reserves of the Rengan field, which is located in the Rudaki district, some 20 kilometers south of Dushanbe, will start on April 15.

Tajik-Russian consultations on exploring Tajikistan’s gas and oil reserves were held in Dushanbe last week, according to the source.  “The equipment necessary for the geological prospecting for gas and oil reserves has already been delivered to Danghara and the exploration work there has started,” the MoEI source said.

According to the MoEI, the Russian side is supposed to provide totaling some $12 million to explore gas and oil reserves of the Sargazon and Rengan fields.

As it had been reported earlier, Gazprom in December 2006 received two licenses from the Tajik government to explore gas and oil reserves of the Rengan and Sargazon fields.

Zinaida Krassi, deputy head of the Zarubezhneftegaz representative office in Dushanbe said that according to experts from Gazprom, the Rengan filed has possible gas reserves of 35 billion cubic meters and the Sargazon gas field has possible reserves of 30 billion cubic meters.

Gazprom also hopes to receive licenses for exploring gas and oil reserves of the Sariqamish and Western Shohambari fields, which are located in central Tajikistan.
