DUSHANBE, April 12, Asia-Plus – The 57th session of the CIS Council of Border Troops Commanders opened in the Armenian capital city of Yerevan today.  

Issues related to cooperation between border services of the CIS states in providing their national security have been tabled to the meeting’s agenda, press release issued by the CIS Executive Committee said.  

During two days, participants at the meeting will exchange views on the present situation on external borders of the CIS states and topical issues of cooperation between the border services.    

The sharing of experience in counteracting illegal migration, smuggling of weapons, drugs and goods across borders of the CIS member-states as well as experience in stopping poaching and the protection of sea biological resources in the Black Sea and the Caspian will be on agenda, according to press release.

They will also consider a plan of events being of organizing character to be held by the Council and the Coordinating Service in 2008.     

The CIS border troops commanders will also share opinions about new forms and methods of border guarding, including methods, which use modern technical security equipment.

Besides, senior representatives of the border protection agencies intend to discuss results of cooperation of the Coordinating Service of the Border Troops Commanders Council with other international organizations and introduce proposals concerning the celebration of the 15th anniversary of the Council foundation.

The CIS Council of Border Troops Commanders was founded on July 6, 1992.
