DUSHANBE, April 25, Asia-Plus – The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has recalled its lawsuit against the Social-Democratic Party (SDPT).

Hearing of a court case pitting a MoJ against the SDPT was held in the Supreme Court on April 24.

We will recall that Davlat Sulaymonov, the head of the MoJ department for registration of public associations and political parties, told Asia-Plus on April 18 that the ministry has appealed to the Supreme Court asking to suspend the SDPT.  According to him, the party allegedly failed to submit mandatory financial and political reports and violated several articles of the country’s law on political parties.

The MoJ says it withdrew the lawsuit after the SDPT leadership had addressed the existing violations and removed the shortcomings in its activity.

In the meantime, the SDPT leader Rahmatillo Zoirov said in an interview with Asia-Plus that the lawsuit against the party had been launched on the basis of unchecked facts, which demonstrates either incompetence of the ministry’s officials or ordered nature of the action.

“They have made unfounded accusation against us of violating Articles 10, 11 and 16 of the RT Law “On Political Parties”, while we have never violated them,” said Zoirov, “Under provisions of this law, we had to not submit financial and political reports but just to publish information about activity of the party and its location and we did it through the Dushanbe weekly
