DUSHANBE, April 30,A Asia-Plus – President Emomali Rahmonov is currently addressing the sixth joint session of Tajikistan’s parliament.

The head of state is expected to announce an opening of the country’s financial market to foreign banks.  Tajik central bank head Murodali Alimardonov told journalists in Dushanbe on April 25 that at the initial stage, five foreign banks, including Kazakhstan’s ATFBank, Kazkomertzbank and TuranAlemBank, will get to the Tajik financial market.  According to him, a number of Russian banks and some financial institutions from other countries have also signaled interest in working in Tajikistan.

We will recall that in last year’s address President Rahmon focused on issues of fighting corruption.  Rahmon said he was prepared to take “tough measures” to clamp down on corruption.  He urged officials to voluntarily declare their real estate and other property — a move he said would spare them from being confiscated.

The tenth session of the Majlisi Milli (Tajikistan’s upper chamber of parliament) will be held in Dushanbe today afternoon.  The session is supposed to consider and confirm a number of laws adopted by the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) this year.
