DUSHANBE, June 15, Asia-Plus – On Thursday June 14, Tajik Foreign Minister Hamrokhon Zarifi met with Ambassador Vladimir Sotirov, Head of the UN Tajikistan Office of Peace-Building (UNTOP).

According to Tajik FMA, in the course of the talks Zarifi and Sotirov exchanged views on stages of reestablishment and strengthening of peace and national accord in Tajikistan.

During the meeting it was noted that the United Nations had played an invaluable role in supporting a peace-building process in Tajikistan. 

The two also underlined the importance of Tajik model of achieving peace through negotiations that could be used in the world practice as a concept. 

Zarifi and Sotirov also discussed issues related to preparations for an international conference dedicated to the 10th anniversary of signing of Tajik General Peace Agreement, which is set for June 25-26.   

We will recall that the United Nations will close the Tajikistan Office of Peace-Building on July 31.
