Joint statement by Iran transit forum stresses regional transport coordination

DUSHANBE, July 17, Asia-Plus – IRNA — Ministers, deputy ministers of road and transportation and participants in the 2nd Iran Transit Forum; Opportunities and Challenges, in Tehran resulted in a joint statement stressing coordination of transport policies and promotion of international cooperation by upgrading private and public sectors.

The statement underscored the importance of mutual cooperation among governments and nations stressing that such cooperation would result in promoting trade and economic growth.  “Providing safe, economic and smooth transport services to facilitate access to the various markets in the region and world wide are the prerequisites to achieve the required goals,” the statement added.

The participating delegations further stressed development by encouraging exchange of information and experience in order to improve efficiency of transport network.  They also called for acceleration and development of requisite trends leading to integrate to international conventions and organizations as well as the acceleration in signing bilateral, multilateral, regional and international agreements on future cooperation.  Transport and road ministers from Afghanistan, Armenia, Tajikistan, Turkey and Uzbkistan as well as representatives from 30 world countries attended the forum.

The statement further urged acceleration and completion of missing links of transport infrastructures network especially in the framework of international and regional transit corridors.  It also called for extending maximum efforts to reduce complicated laws and regulations to promote goods and passenger movement and ensuring costs and time reduction of transit while crossing the countries borders as well as increasing facilities in this respect.

Development and expansion of investment in transport sectors and promotion of cooperation between governmental and non-governmental sectors, including international, financial and credit organizations in the transportation field were among other issues stressed by the participating delegation at the forum.

The statement further emphasized expansion of multimodal transport development in transport industry productivity as well as multilateral support from various transport companies.  It stressed enhancement of techniques, adoption of modern and innovative technologies, employing the latest up-to-date and skilled techniques in transport and transit fields.

The statement concluded by urging development and intensification of cooperation and improved bilateral or mutilator coordination to further enhance the future of transport sector.
