DUSHANBE, August 27, Asia-Plus — A tripartite meeting with participation of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, his Afghan counterpart, President Hamid Karzai, and the US Secretary of Commerce Carlos M. Gutierrez was held in Dushanbe Saturday evening, presidential press service said.     

The sides discussed a broad range of issues related to tripartite cooperation as well as regional ties between Central and South Asia, according to presidential press service. 

President Rahmon noted that the bridge across the Panj River would give anew impulse to further expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and Afghanistan and in the region as a whole. 

Tajik leader noted that in 2006, a trade between Tajikistan and Afghanistan exceeded $25 million, which is 61.2 percent more than in 2005.  

In the course of the talks, the sides paid a special attention to the issues of postwar reconstruction of Afghanistan’s economy.  They underlined the importance implementation of strategic projects in Tajikistan in the fields of energy, transportation and communications, presidential press service said.
