Tajik jewelers cannot attend International Jewelry Show in Mumbai

DUSHANBE, August 31, Asia-Plus — International Jewelry Show opened in Mumbai, India, yesterday.  Fashion shows with demonstration of jewelry, contests, conferences and workshops will be held on sidelines of the exhibition staged by the Jewelry Export Promotion Council of India.

According to Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), some 50 Tajik enterprises dealing with production and realization of jewelry have received invitations to attend the exhibition.  “However, nobody from Tajikistan participates in the exhibition because of financial problems,” said the source.  “All expenses on travel should be paid by participants themselves.”

According to the Ministry of Energy and Industries (MoEI), there are four companies in Tajikistan dealing with jewelry production: Zari Kulob, Gran, Tajik-Kirstall, and Alamz-Azia

Tajikistan has 28 known gold deposits containing an estimated 429.3 tons of gold.  The country now produces just 1.8 tons of gold each year, most of which comes from the Jilau deposit operated by the Zeravshan Gold Company (ZGC).  Another gold producer is JV Darvaz that produces gold from its alluvial operation at the Yakhsou deposit, located in the Khatlon province in southern Tajikistan.  It reportedly has proven reserves of around 25 tons of gold.  The third joint venture company developing Tajikistan’s gold potential is JV Aprelevka.  Apart from developing the Aprelevka deposit, which has estimated proven reserves of over 500 000oz, the joint venture intends carrying out exploration in the Tien Shan region in northern Tajikistan, which has several known high-grade gold deposits.
