DUSHANBE, September 27, Asia-Plus — Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov, heading representative governmental delegation,  will arrive in Dushanbe on October 4 for an official two-day visit, Asia-plus ahs learned at the Tajik MFA.   

The same day, Berdymukhamedov will hold talks with his Tajik counterpart, President Emomali Rahmon that will end with signing of a number of interstate documents, including an agreement on friendship and neighborliness.

After that Tajik-Turkmen negotiations will continue in an enlarged format and the sides will consider a series of agreements on bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy, commerce, agriculture, science and culture.    

On October 4, Turkmen leader will also hold meeting with Saydullo Khairulloyev, Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament).  

The next day, Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov will visit the Tursunzoda district to familiarize himself with the Hoji Nematullo Farm and Tajik Aluminum Company (Talco).  On October 5, he will also visit the Hissor Fortress in the Hissor district.      

Diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and Turkmenistan were established in 1993, and the countries have signed 18 bilateral documents so far.

During his stay in the Tajik capital, the Turkmen president will also attend the CIS summit. 

According to the Tajik MFA, leaders of all 12 CIS states have confirmed their readiness to attend the CIS summit in Dushanbe.      

Tajik MFA considers Turkmen leader’s visit to Dushanbe “real breakthrough”

DUSHANBE, September 27 – Itar-Tass — Tajikistan’s Foreign Ministry described Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhamedov’s upcoming visit as “a real breakthrough” in Tajik-Turkmen relations, which were frozen in the post-Soviet period.

The Turkmen head of state arrived in Dushanbe on a two-day official visit on October 4.

During the visit, the sides are expected to sign a package of documents, including a treaty of friendship and good-neighborliness.

According to the Tajik government’s reports, the talks will focus on the details of preliminary agreements on electricity supplies (one billion kWh) to Dushanbe.  In recent years Tajikistan has faced electricity deficit, especially in the autumn and winter.

Dushanbe also intends to put forth several initiatives on the expansion of trade and economic cooperation, and Turkmen businessmen’s involvement in taking part in major investment projects, primarily in the gas and energy sectors.

The Turkmen leader will also participate in the CIS summit slated for October 5.
