DUSHANBE, October 19, Asia-Plus — Tajik media organizations have propounded to make amendments to the RT Law “On the Press and Other Mass Media.”

According to the National Association of Independent Media of Tajikistan (Nansmit), Tajik Journalists’ Union, Nansmit, the Foundation for Memory and Protection of the Rights of Journalists of Tajikistan, the Homa Public Association, Media Alliance and Republican Bureau on Human Rights and Rule of Law are currently implementing a project aimed at reforming the mentioned law.  

According, the initiative has been seconded by the International Foundation for Protection of Freedom of Speech Adil Soz (Kazakhstan) and the International Freedom of Expression Exchange (IFEX). 

This project is aimed at union of efforts of all media organizations in the country to analyze the law and reveal gaps and discrepancies, the Nansmit head Nouriddin Qarshiboyev said.  

A working group, comprising representatives from media organizations, has been set up and the services of specialists from relevant ministries, parliament as well as media and independent journalists will be enlisted to work on the proposals.
