, October 22, Asia-Plus  — More than 1,500 Tajik labor migrants were deported from the Russian Federation in 2006-2007 for not fulfilling requirements of legal staying in the country, Ramazon Rahimov, the head of the Migration Service of the Ministry of Interior (MoI), said.

“Over the last four-five years, more than 50,000 Tajik labor migrants have been deported from Russia,” Rahimov said, noting the MoI migration service will have database of all deported migrants soon.

We have repeatedly raised with the Russia’s Federal Migration Service the issue of sharing the database with us,” said Rahimov, “The database has practically been created and it just remains to update it.”

“After the database is complete we should think about resolving the issue of amnestying the deported migrants.  An amnesty would improve the status of labor migrants and Russia would benefit from that as well because there are many skilled specialists among them,” the migration service head said, adding that a center has been set up to work with the deported migrants.

We will recall that Tajikistan’s State Migration Service last January asked the Russian government to amnesty some 50,000 Tajik citizens who have been deported from Russia over the last four years.  Most of Tajik nationals, who are barred from returning to Russia for five years, were punished for failing to register within three days of their arrival in Russia.

“Our migrants should have specialties and speak Russian well,” said Rahimov, “The ministries of interior and education are currently working on setting up centers on training skilled personnel.”

“The Ministry of Education (MoE) has already submitted a list of educational facilities in Dushanbe and in the provinces that will train skilled specialists,” Rahimov said.

He also noted that the MoI migration service intends to resolve the issue of avoiding dual medical examination of migrants.

“At present migrants undergo medical examination both in Tajikistan and in Russia that considerably delays a process of registration on their arrival in,” said Rahimov, “We want to resolve this issue in order that medical certificate issued in Tajikistan should be valid in Russia as well.”
