DUSHANBE, November 9, Asia-Plus — A group of journalists from Central Asian states have visited the NATO headquarters in Brussels this week to familiarize themselves with the Organization’s activities.
During the meeting it was noted that providing journalists and media with reliable information about activities of NATO, as political-military organization, and overcoming stereotypes of the “cold war” period is one of integral part of the NATO Partnership for Peace Program, which has been implemented since 2002.
Speakers at the meeting noted that the Partnership for Peace Program is implemented in the open regime.
They also noted that NATO is also actively engaged in settling issues related to stabilization of situation in Afghanistan. Operation in Afghanistan is the first operation NATO carries out far from Europe and it involves some 40,000 servicemen from 26 member nations of NATO.
Among other important directions of the NATO activities the speakers named mitigation of effects of natural disasters, energy security and cyber security. Plan of actions on these directions is scheduled to be considered next year in Bucharest, Romania.
Tajikistan was represented by representatives from TV channel Safina, national radio and news agency Asia-Plus.
