DUSHANBE, November 12, Asia-Plus  — Tajikistan and Iran have signed an agreement to establish a joint consulting enterprise for elaborating projects in energy and other sectors of economy, according to the Ministry of Energy and Industries (MoEI).

The source at a MoEI said that Tajik Energy and Industries Minister Sherali Gul and visiting Iranian Energy Minister Said Parviz Fattah singed an agreement here on November 10 to establish Tajik-Iranian joint venture at the basis of Tajikistan’s institute for projecting and research study Tajikgidroenergoproekt.        

This enterprise is dedicated to elaborate feasibility study for implementation of new hydroelectricity projects in Tajikistan, including construction of Ayni and Shurob small power plants as well as the Chormaghzak tunnel in southern Tajikistan.   

“Under the agreement the Iranian side will be represented in the enterprise by engineering-consulting company Mahab Quds and Tajikistan by Tajikgidroenergoproekt,” the source said, adding that responsible persons should ground the necessity of this enterprise within three months and submit their proposals to the governments of the two countries .

The source also noted that the sides also signed protocols on the intent of the energy ministries of Tajikistan and Iran to construct the Shurob and Ayni small plants and shorten the scheduled time for commissioning the Sangtuda-2 hydropower plant in Tajikistan.   

A working group, comprising representatives from Tajikistan’s Barqi Tojik power holding and Tajikgidroenergoproekt as well as Iran’s companies Mahab Quds and Farab, within three months are to elaborate feasibility studies for construction of small plants Ayni on the Zarafshon River and Shurob on the Vakhsh River.   

In the meantime, according to Iran’s IRNA, the mentioned joint enterprise is an institute for water study.
