DUSHANBE, November 21, Asia-Plus  — The 47th meeting of the CIS Railways Council is opening in Baku, Azerbaijan on November 22, Asia-Plus has learned from Nematullo Nazarov, the head of the international relations department of Tajik Railways.

According to him, Tajikistan will be represented by the Tajik Railways head Amonullo Hukumatullo at the Baku meeting, which aims to sum up the results of work carried out by the CIS Railways Council over the first nine months of this year.  

The meeting will also consider rail schedule for 2008-2009 and the results of inventory of cargo carriages, etc.  

The CIS railways Council was established in 1992, with an aim to exploit wagons of the common pool of the railways, coordination of the normative acts and agreements on freight and passenger transport between the countries using a system of mutual settling of account, etc.  Head Office of the Council is situated in Moscow.

Heads of railways administrations of Baltic states, Finland and Bulgaria have the status of affiliated members or observers in the CIS Railways Council.

Decisions are made at the meetings of the Council that take place 2-3 times a year.
