DUSHANBE, December 12, Asia-Plus  — The results of the 2007 cotton-harvesting campaign will be summed up on December 16, Tohir Sodiqov, the head of the industrial and grain crops department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection (MoAEP), said in an interview with Asia-Plus.  

According to him, practically all the country’s districts have completed cotton harvest, and just several farming units are still continuing to gather cotton.

The republic had yielded 419,618 tons of cotton by December 1 2007, which comprises 76.3 per cent of this year”s target determined at 550,000 tons of cotton.  Last year, Tajikistan yielded 440,245 tons of cotton, which was 80.5 percent of the national target that had been determined at 547,000 tons of cotton.  

This year , cotton has been planted on a total area of 254,279 hectares, while last year, 262,000 hectares of farmland were sown with cotton.
