DUSHANBE, December 25, Asia-Plus  — A meeting of President Emomali Rahmon with Tajik entrepreneurs is currently being held at the Kokhi Vahdat State Complex in Dushanbe today.

According to presidential press service, ways to seek solution to the problems facing development of small and medium-sized businesses in Tajikistan are focus of the meeting.

The meeting participants include more than 1,300 entrepreneurs from all regions of the country.

We will recall that the entrepreneurs gathered in Dushanbe for a business forum entitled “Prospects of Development of Entrepreneurship in Tajikistan” that was held in the Tajik capital yesterday.

As it had been reported earlier, entrepreneurs in Dushanbe, Gorno Badakhshan, Khatlon, Sughd and districts subordinate to the center held the preliminary meetings last week to discuss problems facing them and select the most topical ones that will be brought to president’s attention at the meeting in Dushanbe.

We will recall that during a meeting with senior representatives of the government and leading businesspeople on November 21, President Rahmon called for greater investment in strategically significant projects essential ford development of the country and stressed that development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) was one of the basic purposes of the government’s economic policy.  He also highlighted the need for entrepreneurs and businessmen to familiarize themselves with modern foreign technologies.  The president also announced a follow-up meeting set for December.

The first two meetings of President Rahmon with Tajik entrepreneurs were held in 2001 and 2003.  The meetings promoted adoption of more liberal laws and normative documents aimed at protecting entrepreneurship in the country – The Law “On State Protection and Support for Entrepreneurship” (2002), the Law “On Licensing Certain Types of Activities” (2004), government’s resolutions on Tajikistan’s entrepreneurship development concept and the concept of development of entrepreneurship for period till 2015.
