DUSHANBE, January 30, Asia-Plus  — Losses caused to Barqi Tojik (Tajik electric systems) power holding by ineffective work of the Dushanbe heat and power plant last year amounted to 134 million somonis (equivalent to $some 38.6 million), the Barqi Tojik top manager Sharifkhon Samiyev said.

Barqi Tojik is the higher authority in charge of the Dushanbe heat and power plant.

According to Samiyev, cost price of electricity generated by the Dushanbe heat and power plant last year amounted to 6.15 cents per one KWh, while it was realized to consumers at the rate of 0.66 cent per one kWh.

This year, losses from work of the Dushanbe heat and power plant may increase several times as domestic price of natural gas has increased from $136 in 2007 to $186 per 1,000 cubic meters.

Last year, the Dushanbe heat and power plant increased generation of electrical power by 151 million kWh and production of heat by 188,000 gigacalories.

According to Barqi Tojik, the Dushanbe heat and power station now daily generates up to 3 million kWh of electricity and some 5,000 gigacalories of heat.

Constructed in 1968, the Dushanbe heat and power plant has the rated capacity of 198 megawatt.  It mainly works on natural gas; however, fuel oil is also used as reserve fuel.
