DUSHANBE, February 23, Asia-Plus  — On Friday February 22, a handover ceremony of emergency relief goods (2,200 Blankets) equivalent to some US$ 92,900 to Tajikistan’s Ministry of Health (MoH) was held.

According to the Japanese Embassy in Dushanbe, the mentioned goods are extended by the Government of Japan to the Government of Tajikistan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), in connection with the unusually harsh winter and extreme electricity shortage, which have left the country in a state of energy crisis.

The aid is aimed to contribute to the measures taken for improving the situation in the hospitals, clinics and mass-care facilities throughout the country, which are facing serious problems in maintaining normal functioning of the institutions in ensuring stable supply of electricity, support of heating system, provision of potable water and providing overall adequate medical services.  Regardless of the measures taken by the concerned authorities to deal with the emergency, the situation remains rather unstable.

In this regard, the Government of Japan has decided to extend this aid from a humanitarian point of view to the Republic of Tajikistan, considering the friendly relationship between the two countries, and taking into account the scale of the disaster, which has had tremendous impact on the well being and economic stability of the population.
