DUSHANBE, February 23, Asia-Plus  — Speaking at an informal CIS summit in Moscow on February 22, President Emomali Rahmon pointed to the necessity of expanding cooperation among the CIS states in sectors like economics, transport and communications, as well as creating free economic zones (FEZs) and common food and energy markets within the CIS area, according to presidential press service.    

The CIS heads of state supported proposal of President Rahmon to declare 2008 as Year of Literature and Education in CIS. 

By Tajikistan’s proposal, the third forum of CIS scientific and creative intelligentsia will be held under the auspices of UNSECO in the Dushanbe this year on sidelines of events to mark the 1150th anniversary of founder of the Tajik-Persian classic literature Abu Abdullo Rudaki, the presidential press service said.      

CIS leaders discussed economic trade and migration policies.  The drawing up of a document, Strategy for the Commonwealth”s Economic Development, was discussed at the summit.  The document should provide a set of measures aimed at boosting economic cooperation, raising competitiveness of the CIS member states and fostering social and economic development.
