KHOROG, March 31, Asia-Plus  — We and members of our parties in Gorno Badakhshan will not participate in a demonstration the Social-Democratic Party intends to hold in Khorog on April 8, heads of regional organizations of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (Qurbonaseyn Khudoiyev), the Communist Party (Khusrav Raqamov) and the Democratic Party (Marod Mirasanov) for Gorno Badakhshan announced at a press conference in Khorog on March 29.

“We live in democratic and rule-of-law society and all problems should be tackled through legal methods,” they said.

According to them, organizers of the upcoming demonstration could raise and discuss those issues with the population through media.

“SDPT could bring these issues to relevant local and central authorities’ attention for making appropriate decision and in the event of unfounded rejection or reply they might stage a protest,” said a joint statement made by the regional organizations of these parties.  “However, SDPT has not done this and decided to stage the protest at once, which is in contrary to democratic principles.”

“Our parties are open for constructive dialogue with all other parties functioning in the region on issues raised by the SDPT but not through demonstration,” they said.

We will recall that that the SDPT regional organization for Gorno Badakhshan intends to hold demonstration in Khorog on April 8 to protest at “repeated violations of requirements of the Constitution and the T Law “On the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region.”
