DUSHANBE, April 8, Asia-Plus  — The Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) has reviewed its figures given on a locust infestation in the country. 

Press service of a MoA told Asia-Plus today that the locust infestation has to date affected 16 districts in Khatlon, four districts in Sughd and five districts subordinate to the center (RRPs).  

According to the MoA press service, the Deputy Agriculture Minister Shukrullo Rahimnazarov said that they expect the locust infestation to spread to 200,000 hectares this year.  The MoA specialists have to date inspected 127,490 hectares and it turned out that the locust infestation has spread to 76.1 hectares so far.   

In the Khatlon province, the MoA specialists have inspected 84,610 hectares; the locust infestation has spread to 55.500 hectares in the province.  16,050 hectares of the affected areas have been treated there so far.  

In the northern Sughd province, locusts have affected 12,075 hectares in Mastchoh, Zafarobod, Bobojonghafurov and Jabborrasulov districts.  Only 395 hectares of the affected areas have been treated in the province.        

In the districts subordinate to the center – Shahrinav, Tursunzoda, Varzob, Rudaki and Hissor districts – the locust infestation has spread to 17,000 hectares.  

We will recall that the MoA press service told Asia-Plus on April 5 that the serious locust infestation has spread to some 220,000 hectares in 16 districts of the Khatlon province and the Rudaki district over the past few days.
