Tajik, Indian MPs speak for resumption of aerial communication between Dushanbe and New Delhi

DUSHANBE, April 10, Asia-Plus  — Saydullo Khairulloyev, the Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament), today met with visiting delegation of Indian MPs led by Syed Shahnawaz Hussain that arrived in Tajikistan on April 8.  

In the course of the talks, Tajik speaker briefed Indian MPs on work of the lower house of the Tajik parliament and noted that it has adopted more than 1,000 laws and ratified some 200 international agreements since 2000.  

For his part, Mr. Hussain underlined the importance of expansion of cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries.  He, in particular, noted that there ought to consider the issue of resumption of direct aerial communication between New Delhi and Dushanbe. 

Tajik speaker supported this proposal and pointed to the necessity of consolidating permanent overland links between Tajikistan and India as well.         

            During the meeting, Mr. Hussain also expressed gratitude to Tajikistan for an opportunity for Indian students to study at Tajik State Medical University.  

            During their stay in Dushanbe, Indian MPs are also scheduled to hold a number of meetings with representatives from the Center for Strategic Studies, MFA, State Committee for Investment and Management of State-owned Property, Society for Friendship and Cultural Ties with Foreign Countries, and Tajik National University from April 11 to April 13.  

            Today, Khairulloyev also held a meeting with a group of Indian businessmen who arrived in Tajikistan together with Indian MPs and are expected to stay in Tajikistan until April 14.
