KULOB, May 2, Asia-Plus  — On Thursday May 1, Kazakhstan shipped 128 tons of wheat flour to Kulob.

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Abdukarim Nematov, the head of the branch of Tojiksodirotbonk (TSB) in Kulob, said that two train cars loaded with Kazakh wheat flour totaling 128 tons will arrive in Kulob soon.  Referring to the Kulob bakery plant Abdusalom Gurezov, Nematov said that Kazakhstan will ship another 64 tons of flour to Kulob in a week.

According to Nematov, they had earlier contracted with Kazakh partners for 2,000 tons of wheat and the bank had allocated $175,000, however, Kazakh partners then refused to supply wheat, justifying the refusal as based on a ban put by Kazakh authorities on wheat exports aimed at protecting consumers from the effects of global train shortages.

“Therefore, we had to purchase flour for the mentioned amount,” said the TSB branch head.  “Earlier, we had provided $40,000 to the Kulob bakery plant and this amount had been used for delivery of 400 tons of wheat to the region, and flour produced from this wheat is currently realized in the city at 95 somonis for a 50-kilogram sack, while the present price for the 50-kilgoram sack of flour on markets is at least 120 somonis”
