DUSHANBE, May 27, Asia-Plus  – The president-led People’s Democratic Party (PDPT) intends to have the patronage of the project aimed at completing construction of the Roghun hydroelectric power station (HPS).

Davlatali Davlatzoda, the first deputy head of the party, told Asia-Plus today that the decision on that subject had been taken at the party’s conference.  “Providing the country’s energy independence is one of priorities and our party having more than 110,000 member could not stand aside,” said Davlatzoda. “In case of necessity, we could organize mobile construction teams numbering up to 1,000 people form among our young members having specialties necessary for construction of this hydropower facility.”   “We called on all political parties and large public associations to join this initiative,” Davlatzoda said.  

We will recall that Dushanbe mayor also speaker of upper house of parliament, Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, in late April said that the government could raise about $10 million for its construction if all residents of the capital Dushanbe were to give up half their wages in May and June.  Shavkat Saidov, a spokesman for the capital mayor, said, “Mahmadsaid  Ubaidulloyev appealed on all companies to transfer 50 percent of employees” salaries to help construction of the Roghun HPS.”  Saidov said the measure was voluntary.
