DUSHANBE, May 31, Asia-Plus — On Sunday June 1, a circumcision rite will be carried out for 100 children from orphanages and vulnerable families at a lyceum run by the Charitable Foundation Sarparast in Dushanbe.
Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, the Sarparast deputy director Dilovar Qurbonov said that the event is carried out in cooperation with the Public Movement of National Unity and revival of Tajikistan and Dushanbe Mayor’s Office on occasion of International Children’s Day, which is marked in Tajikistan on June 1.
According to him, more than 2,500 children from orphanages and vulnerable families are expected to attend festive activities in Dushanbe dedicated to mark International Children’s Day.
The International Children’s Day is celebrated in numerous countries, usually (but not always) on June 1 each year.
According to some sources, Children”s Day had its origin in the World Conference for the Wellbeing of Children in Geneva in 1925. The June 1 date has a Chinese-USA origin – and nothing to do with Communism. In 1925, the Chinese consul-general in San Francisco gathered a number of Chinese orphans to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival. This, of course, coincided with the conference mentioned above. However, each country chooses its own day to commemorate it.
