GHARM, June 19, Asia-Plus  — The British Ambassador to Tajikistan, Mr. Graeme Loten, who is currently on his five-day visit to the Rasht Valley, yesterday got acquainted with the Nourobod district.   

In the course of the talk, the Nourobod Chairman Ziyoratsho Sadulloyev briefed the British Ambassador on the socioeconomic situation in the district.  He, in particular, noted that Nourobod has good energy potential and 12 small power plants have been built here so far, and three others are supposed to be finished before the end of this year.   

Sadulloyev noted that Nourobod is an agrarian district and local population is mainly engaged in potato growing and animal husbandry.  

During the meeting, it was also noted that local authorities will move from the settlement of Nourobod, which is the present administrative center of the district, to the settlement of Darband before the end of this year.   

Local authorities also noted that in connection with the resumption of construction of the Roghun hydroelectric power station (HPS), resettlement of some 7,000 families from villages, which will be submerged by construction of the Roghun reservoir, to the Khumdon and Darband jamoats in Nourobod as well as Danghara, Tursunzoda and Shahritus districts will start this year.  

Today, Ambassador Loten left Nourobod for the Rasht district.   

We will recall that the British Ambassador to Tajikistan, Mr. Graeme has been on his visit to the Rasht Valley since June 18.  In the Rasht Valley, Mr. Loten is visiting Nourobod, Rasht, Tojikobod and Jirgatol districts to get acquainted with socioeconomic situation in those districts.  During the trip, Mr. Loten is expected to visit a number farming units, enterprises and social facilities in the region.
