KHUJAND, July 8, 2008, Asia-Plus — The Khujand shelter for persons with no fixed abode (homeless persons) is now in a very poor state and requires major repairs, the shelter head Zaynullo Davlatyorov said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
According to him, built in 1968 already, the shelter has five rooms for homeless persons and staffers. Twenty men and women of different age currently live in the shelter. “Among them are former residents of Russia’s Chechnya, Moscow, Turkmenistan and even Germany,” the shelter head said.
“The shelter is provided with fridge, TV and radio sets, stoves and the shelter inmates get meals three times a day,” Davlatyorov said, noting that a doctor and two nurses watch them.
Fortunately, the Khujand municipal authorities have decided to assist the shelter with major repairs and construction of bathhouse, the shelter head said.
