DUSHANBE/PANJAKENT, July 14, 2008, Asia-Plus  — The leader of the Islamic Revival Party (IRPT), Muhiddin Kabiri, who is currently on his working trip to the northern Sughd province, has already visited Ayni, Kuhistoni Mastchoh and Panjakent districts.

As it had been reported earlier, the IRPT leader will visit the Sughd province on July 11-20.

According to Hikmatullo Sayfullozoda, a spokesman for the IRPT, who is accompany Kabiri on his trip to northern Tajikistan, the IRPT leader met with residents of the Ayni district on July 11, held meetings in the Kuhistoni Mastchoh district on July 12 and visited the Panjakent district on July 13.

Sayfullozoda told Asia-Plus by phone that the party has some 2,000 in Kuhistoni Mastchoh, which is nearly 12 percent of the district population of 17,000.  “I believe that the majority population of the district is our supporters,” Sayfullozoda said, noting that the party is currently developing dialogue with the district local authorities.

In the meantime, in the Ayni district with the population of 75,000, the IRPT has only 200 members and in Panjakent with the population of some 200,000, it has only 600 members, according to him.

Meetings in Ayni and Kuhistoni Mastchoh focused mainly on the socioeconomic problems, while earlier, local residents had shown preference mainly to political issues, Sayfullozoda said.

On July 13, Muhiddin Kabiri held meetings in the Panjakent district.  State and prospects of participation of the IRPT in development of the country and its cooperation with the government were among major topics of the meetings.  Kabiri also answered numerous questions of social and economic character.

At present, the IRPT leader is in the Ghonchi district.

The last leg of Kabir’s tour of northern Tajikistan will be the city of Khujand, where he will hold meetings on July 20.

We will recall that in early July, the IRPT leader visited Khatlon’s Shuroobod and Khovaling districts, where he got acquainted with activities of the IRPT organizations in the districts and met with local populations.
