DUSHANBE, July 14, 2008, Asia-Plus – Livestock and poultry have increased in Gorno Badakhshan over the first six months of this year.  

Ms. Adolat Haidarova, the deputy head of the GBAO agriculture directorate, said that as of July 1, 2008, the region has had 100,400 head of cattle, which is 4,070 head more than in the same period of last year.  The population of yaks also increased by 870 head in the year to July 1, 2008, reaching more than 17,600 head.    

The population of sheep and goats has increased over the report period by more than 26,400 head, reaching 311,500 head, the deputy head said.

As of July 1, 2008, the population of poultry in Gorno Badakhshan has amounted to more than 123,100 head.  

In the meantime, the number of horses has reduced by 70 head over the same six-month period and amounted to 582 head as of July 1, 2008. 

The number of beehives has increased by 682 in the year to July 1, 2008, reaching more than 5,600.
