DUSHANBE, July 14, Asia-Plus  — Nationals of Tajikistan may stay in Kazakhstan and Kazakh nationals may in Tajikistan 30 days without registration, according to the migration service within the Ministry of Interior (MoI).

The source at the MoI migration service said that based on an agreement reached during President Rahmon’s visit to Kazakhstan to Astana in May, the MoI and the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) issued a joint order on July, under which nationals of Tajikistan and Kazakhstan may stay in the territory of each other 30 days without registration.  The same order was issued by relevant bodies of Kazakhstan.

We will recall that Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Tajikistan, Mr. Abutalip Akhmetov, told reporters in Dushanbe on July 5 that Kazakhstan’s thriving economy needs foreign skilled specialists, including skilled builders from Tajikistan.  According to him, quite a lot of specialists from different countries are currently working in Kazakhstan.  He noted that good experience of Tajik specialists in construction could be demanded in Kazakhstan.  However, he found it difficult to say how many labor migrants from Tajikistan are currently working in Kazakhstan.  “It is difficult to say how many Tajik nationals are currently working in Kazakhstan,” said Akhmetov, “According to our laws, Tajik nationals may stay in Kazakhstan without 30 days without registration, and therefore, it is difficult to say how many of them are labor migrants and how many are tourists.”  Kazakh diplomat added that there are no any specific quotas for migrants in Kazakhstan, and labor resources are recruited depending on requirements of economic entities themselves.
