DUSHANBE, July 15, 2008, Asia-Plus  — Threat of collapse of Tajik state still exists, the director of the Center for Strategic Studies under the Tajik President, Suhrob Sharipov, announced a press conference in Dushanbe on July 15.

According to him, special services of some countries are active in the country to undermine the Tajik state.  “Sometimes, they use internal forces, agitating them against the Tajik statehood,” said the expert “Therefore, we should and will protect our border.”

Sending additional troops to strengthen border control is prerogative of the president as supreme commander-in-chief and no political force has the right to oppose this decision.  “Our government knows where to send troops and those who oppose our will are not our friends to put it mildly,” the Center head said.

Dwelling on factors that pose threat to the country’s national security, Sharipov named regionalism as a reason for a number of problems facing Tajikistan.

The expert noted that he does not see anybody who could rule the country at the present stage better than Emomali Rahmon.
