DUSHANBE, July 18, 2008, Asia-Plus –  A program for use of solar and wind power has been presented at Khorog State University.

Speaking at the program-presentation ceremony, Mr. Vohid Roziqov of Tajik Technical University and Mr. Petros Aksopolusus (phonetically spelled) of Athens University (Greece) noted that the objective of the program for use f solar and wind power is to train Tajik specialists in sue of alternate energy resources.   

According to Professor Aksopolusus, Tajikistan could meet its requirements in electrical power through efficiently using solar and wind power.

Dr. Roziqov, for his part, notes that with regard for rising electrical power prices the use of solar and wind power is becoming topical for the country.

Speaking at the meeting, Shrinibek Nekqadamov, the head of the department of physics within Khorog State University, said, “Intensity of ultraviolet radiation in the Gorno Badakhshan is high, and therefore, experiments on the use of solar and wind energy for generation of electricity had been launched in the 1980s already but later, the works in this direction were curtailed for different reasons.”
