KONIBODOM, July 18, 2008, Asia-Plus  — The Konibodom Music and Drama Theatre is preparing a performance dedicated to the 1,500th anniversary of founder of the Tajik-Persian classical literature Abu Abdullo Roudaki and the Year of the Tajik Language, the theatre director Siddiqboy Nematov said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, the performance, entitled “Rouzi Okhirini Binoi” (The Last Day of Seeing) and based on the play of the same name by known Tajik playwright Muhiddin Khojazoda, will be shown on July 22, State Language Day.

In the meantime, a group of representatives of the Sughd intelligentsia, led by Ahmadjon Rahmatzoda, the head of the Sughd branch of Tajik Writers’ Union, yesterday held a number of meetings in all six rural jamoats (community) of Konibodom.  The meetings were dedicated to a role of the Tajik language in formation of Tajik statehood and works by Roudaki as well as problems of development of culture, science and education in Tajikistan.

Tajikistan celebrates State Language Day on July 22, the anniversary of the designation of Tajik as the state language in 1999.  We will recall that President Emomali Rahmon proposed designating 2008 the Year of the Tajik Language, and publishing by September 2008 a new two-volume Tajik dictionary, together with grammars for the classical and modern literary languages.
