KHUJAND, August 26, 2008, Asia-Plus The 4th session of the council of the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) Interbank Association that was held in the northern city of Qairoqqum on August 25-26 resulted in signing of a final protocol and initialing of a memorandum on partnership between the SCO Interbank Association and the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB). It was also decided that Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan will become new members of the EDB.
The meeting participants included representatives of banks and business circles of the SCO members nations.
During the session, it was noted that Tajikistan’s savings bank Amonatbonk has become a new partner of the SCO Interbank Association and Mukan Sabinbikov, rotating chairman of the SCO Interbank Association and head of the Development Bank of Kazakhstan, officially introduced the Amonatbonk chairman Mahmadamin Mahmadaminov to those present as new partner of the SCO Interbank Association on the part of Tajikistan.
We will recall that in a report released at a press conference in Dushanbe, Ms. Gulnora Hasanova, the first deputy head of Amonatbonk, revealed on July 14 that by president’s order Tajikistan’s savings bank, Amonatbonk, will represent Tajikistan in the SCO Interbank Association.
Tajikistan’s savings bank currently cooperates with 15 banks throughout the world.
The creation of an Inter-bank SCO Council was agreed upon at an October 26, 2005 SCO summit in Moscow in order to fund future joint projects. The first meeting of the SCO Interbank Association was held in Beijing on February 21-22, 2006.
At first, Tajikistan was represented in the SCO Interbank Association by the National Bank of Tajikistan. The other members of the SCO Interbank Association are the Development Bank of Kazakhstan, the Development Bank of China, the Settlement and Saving Company (Kyrgyzstan), Vneshekonombank (Russian Federation), and National Bank of International Trade of Uzbekistan. At the third session of the SCO Interbank Association in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan the Development Bank of Kazakhstan was chosen as the rotating chairman of the Association.
