DUSHANBE, August 27, 2008, Asia-Plus  — The Dialogue Forum Tajikistan, dedicated to the education issues, will be held in Dushanbe under support of the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) in the coming fall.

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Ms. Brigitte Landau of the GTZ said that the objective of this forum is to promote development of the future strategy of development of the country in cooperation with the civic society and the government of Tajikistan.

According to her, three large events, dedicated to the problems of education, economic development and youth of Tajikistan, are scheduled to be held till February 2010.

Holding of the dialogue forum requires substantial preparation and representative of the GTZ head office Mr. Andre Kalmayer and ex-Ambassador and member of the OSCE Mission in Tajikistan in 196-1997, Mr. Arne Saifert, have arrived in Dushanbe to assist with carrying out preparatory works, Ms. Landau said.

Representatives of the Tajik government and civic society (experts, researchers and NGOs), GTZ as well as international donor organizations (EU, UNDP, OSCE) will take part in the forum’s work.

The GTZ is an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development with worldwide operations.  GTZ promotes complex reforms and change processes, often working under difficult conditions.  Its corporate objective is to improve people’s living conditions on a sustainable basis.

In Tajikistan, GTZ has been working on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) since 1996.  At first, cooperation centered on rebuilding the economy and promoting the drawn-out, frequently interrupted transition process from a centrally planned economy to a competitive social market system.  The focus of Technical Cooperation then shifted to a reform of the basic education system and support for economic reforms.  GTZ has maintained a coordination office in Dushanbe since 1996.
