AYNI, September 12, 2008, Asia-Plus  — On September 12, German national, Mr. Marcus Wagner, who is traveling to China by bicycle and has made contribution to development of the village of Veshab in Sughd’s Ayni district, arrived in Dushanbe, Olimjon Rahimov, office manager, the Welthungerhilfe/German Agro Action (GAA), said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

As it had been reported earlier, Marcus Wagner started his cycling race in April this year and his itinerary, which is some 15,000 kilometers in length, runs from Germany through Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Albania, Macedonia, Greece, Turkey, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan to China.

For each traveled kilometer he receives €1.00 from European sponsors, who provided him with bicycle, communications means and tourist accessories for use and advertising.  Proceeds will go to supporting the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) program adopted by the UN General Secretariat in 2002.

According to Rahimov, Veshab is one 15 villages, selected by Welthungerhilfe across the world for implementation of projects for achieving MDGs and some €3,000 were allocated to Wagner especially for the village of Veshab.

Wagner spent two days in Veshab, where he met with the direct beneficiaries of the project.  On September 12, he arrived in Dushanbe, where he met with representatives of the regional office of Welthungerhilfe/GAA there.  From Tajikistan, Mr. Wagner will travel to China.
