CIS experts to discuss migration policy concept

DUSHANBE, September 15, 2008, Asia-Plus  — An expert group will meet in Minsk, Belarus on September 16-17 to discuss issues related to coordination and finalization of the draft concept of migration policy in the field of labor migration within the CIS area. 

Ms. Maria Gutsalo, a spokeswoman for the CIS Executive Committee, told Asia-Plus n Monday that the migration policy is aimed at overcoming negative effects of illegal migration processes, regulating migration flows, as well as creating conditions for unimpeded realization of rights of migrants and ensuring balance of rights and lawful interests of migrants within the CIS area.  

The CIS migration policy is based on principles of concerted interests of member nations, use of common standards for securing human rights and freedoms and prevention of discrimination against migrants and differential approaches to regulation of various types of migration, the spokesman said. 

According to her the concept that will be considered at the meeting is a system of views on the main directions and forms of cooperation in the field of labor migrations within the CIS area and determines goals, objectives and principles of such cooperation.
